Causes of nail brittleness: the solution

Causes of nail brittleness: the solution
Tidy and strong nails are every girl's dream. But unfortunately there is such an unpleasant phenomenon as nail breakage. No one is immune to this, even the strongest nails can break for various reasons. However, there is no need to get upset in advance, because the problem can be easily eliminated. In this article, we will tell you what to do if a nail breaks, as well as understand what are the possible causes that can provoke such situations.

WHY DO MY NAILS BREAK?

It's clear that natural and permanent nails break for different reasons. Let's try to break them down.
Causes of natural nail breakage

Most often, nails start to break for the following reasons:

1. Lack of vitamins, micro and macronutrients. The first thing to do is to review your diet.
Foods rich in vitamins and trace elements for healthy nails:
- courgette, cucumbers.
- nuts and sesame.
- seafood.
- vegetable juices.
- seaweed.
- milk and other dairy products.
- pumpkin seeds.
- oily fish.
If your diet contains the above foods, then you will be able to keep your nails healthy and neat.

2. Improper care. Lack of products to soften and nourish the skin on the hands, improper correction, unsuitable materials and tools - all this leads to destruction of the nail structure.

3. Cosmetic products of low quality. Most of the cosmetics that we use for everyday hand and nail care contain acetone and formaldehyde. Due to contact with these substances natural nail plates weaken, lose their natural hardness, and become brittle. Detergents and poor-quality water can do them harm.
REMEMBER! Any work connected with detergents must be done with rubber or latex medical gloves. If you wash the dishes with your hands, try to wear gloves and choose a detergent with a moisturising component.
Also, excessive use of decorative manicures can lead to nail breakage and splitting. Frequent polishing, especially if it is of poor quality, exposure to acetone or other special liquids can cause splitting. All these substances penetrate into the pores of the nail plate and destroy it from the inside.

TIP: Your nails should be cared for regularly. There are a number of different nail care treatments, most of which can be done yourself. For example: baths with oils, masks, special nail polishes to strengthen the plates, various folk methods. (The article «How to strengthen your nails? Now on to the causes of broken false nails

1. Incorrect positioning of the mould. The shape was facing downwards or upwards.
2. The natural nail was not properly prepared before modelling.
3. Material in the cuticle area is not thick enough or too thick.
4. The stressed area was modelled incorrectly, this caused too much stress on the artificial part.
5. Use of materials from different manufacturers; sometimes they are not compatible. 6.
6. Detachment of the natural nail due to some internal reason.
7. Too much material on the free edge - the nail starts to overbalance and then breaks.
8. The nail is too thin, like a competition nail.
9. The mold was too loose, which caused the material to get under the nail.

A NATURAL NAIL IS BROKEN: WHAT CAN I DO?

If the free edge is damaged:

1. Remove the nail polish and wipe it with antiseptic.
2. Polish the bumps on the nail with a buff nail file.
3. Make a «patch». A piece of cloth should be 2-3 mm larger than the break (from each edge).
4. Lubricate the surface with glue, and place the fabric. To evenly distribute the patch, you can use the sharp tip of a toothpick.
5. Once the glue has dried, buff the nail with a buffing file.
6. Depending on the extent of the damage, apply 1-2 more layers of tissue.
7. The final step is to varnish the plate.

In the centre of the nail plate

1. Cut a piece of silk or, in an extreme case, a teabag so that it completely covers the crack and extends slightly beyond it.
2. Gently buff away the cracked area using a buffing stone.
3. Apply a thin coat of medical adhesive or a special silk glue and place a silk cloth on top.
4. Apply a little more glue.
5. Straighten the silk with an orange wand and wait for the glue to dry.
6. Polish the nail plate with a buff to smooth out the protruding glue and cover with glitter varnish or gel varnish according to all the rules.

«Down to the meat»

If a nail is broken until it bleeds and the nail bed is damaged, you should see a doctor. Surgeons deal with such problems, but as a last resort you can also ask your general practitioner for a referral.

A FALSE NAIL HAS BROKEN: WHAT SHOULD I DO?

The simplest answer to this question is, of course, to 'go to a handyman'. But it's not always possible, so a few tips will definitely help.

1. Pinching the tip. Take a coarse-grained nail file and gently file the nail, giving the tip the shape you want. If you're too uncomfortable with the uneven length of nails, file the rest of the nails as well.

2. Break the nail down to the edge of the original nail. If there is no blood or obvious trauma to the nail plate, the skin around the nail should be disinfected and a plaster should be applied.

3. Breakage of the grown nail together with the natural nail "to the point of bleeding". First of all, it is important to remain calm! To start with, the wound must be treated with an antiseptic (alcohol, peroxide, iodine) to avoid any infection. After these manipulations, be sure to apply an anti-inflammatory or antibacterial ointment (e.g. Levomekol) on top and seal it with a plaster. Unfortunately, in this case you can only be helped by a manicurist, you can't glue the broken nail back on.

REMEMBER! In case of a broken nail, it's not recommended to return the same day for correction because the wound has to heal in order to make the correction process less painful and to prevent any smallest particle from getting into the wound and causing an inflammation.

PREVENTING BREAKAGE OF NATURAL NAILS

General tips to prevent nail breakage:

- Eat more fresh fruit and vegetables and drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day.
- Adhere to a regular routine of work and rest. Chronic fatigue and frequent overexertion have a detrimental effect on the condition of your nails and the health of your body in general.
- Less stress! Constant stress isn't good for your health either.
- Use a moist towelette to keep your hands clean. Frequent contact (more than 6 times a day) with water will break down the nail structure.
- Use gloves when washing up and cleaning. Exposure to water and chemicals will thin the nail plate, making it brittle and prone to breakage.
- Remove the nail polish correctly. Do not tear off the gel polish - use a special product or a machine. When the material is ripped off, the top protective layer separates along with it and the nails become thin and prone to breakage.

PREVENTION OF BREAKAGE OF THE EXTENDED NAILS

- Top-quality materials. Use only quality materials from proven manufacturers for extensions, e.g. Global Fashion online shop!
- Reduce mechanical interference - this includes, for example, tapping your nails on a table with the tips of your nails.
- Use gloves because the chemistry causes the material to loosen;
- Get your nails done in time. (Read all about correction in our article).
- Removal of the old material. Remove the old fabric completely before applying the new.
